Programs
The Canucks Family Education Centre is proud to offer a number of programs that serve hundreds of children and families in Burnaby and Vancouver’s eastside. CFEC’s programs are geared towards family literacy, social and academic growth, and life skills development. The programs offered by CFEC are free of charge and provide onsite childminding for pre-school aged children. Entering its eight-year of operation, CFEC has established a number of onsite and externally based programs. Seasonal Programs
In addition to the various ongoing programs offered by the Canucks Family Education Centre, new programs are offered seasonally at Britannia Community Services Centre. Here are the program highlights for Spring 2010:
Healthy Eating, Active Living (Tuesdays, 9-12pm)
Join us for an hour of fitness training followed by a parent and/or caregiver support and learning together time. The focus of this program is offering a holistic approach to healthy living for a healthy family towards a healthier future.
Foundations In Math (Wednesdays and Thursdays, 12:30-3:30pm)
Need to improve your math skills? Work with a qualified teacher from Hastings Education Centre who will assess your current level of ability and skills and create a personal plan to meet your specific needs.
Writing from the Heart (Thursdays, 9-12pm)
Discover the wonderful world of reading, writing, and discussion through this course that allows participants to creatively explore and express their views of the world. This program is a grade 12 credit course; however, if you have already graduated, you can still attend and get credit for the course. The course content and materials will be unique and individual for each participant as they are centred upon personal histories and family stories.

Partners In Education (PIE)
The PIE program provides families with children in Kindergarten to Grade 3 with an opportunity to learn more about their school, the education system in general and healthy child development and to strengthen the home-school partnership. It currently operates out of the following locations:

Youth In Transition (YIT)
The YIT program focuses on the families with youth transitioning into secondary school. Workshops and guest speakers create a safe environment where youth and parents/caregivers can explore a variety of age-appropriate topics. It currently operates out of the following locations:

Burnaby North Secondary School
Get Ready 2 Read (GR2R)
The GR2R program prepares families with preschool aged children for the transition into kindergarten. Parents/caregivers are given opportunities to gain knowledge and skills about healthy child development, literacy and numeracy with a qualified facilitator and their peers. The children also have an opportunity to join their friends in child directed activities without their parents with a focus on play and language development. It currently operates out of the following location:
Britannia StrongStart
Britannia StrongStart program is an early learning drop-in program for preschool aged children and their parents or caregiver. A qualified early childhood educator provides learning activities including stories, music and art to help children get ready for kindergarten. It currently operates out of the following location:
Art and Literacy
This program is specially offered to the parents/caregivers and children who are involved in the PIE program. Art and Literacy is an after-school program that allows families to experience literacy and learning through the universal medium of art and exploration. The program currently operates out of the following location:
